That particle explosion was cool, but what could make it cooler How about if we could create the explosion using pixels from the real thing being exploded What if we could actually obliterate the rock into hundreds of pieces, like shattering a sheet of glass on the ground That sounds a lot cooler to me! And it s completely possible with AS3.0. It works like this: Take a snapshot of the area in the bitmap that you want to explode. Cut the snapshot into tiny squares, and use those squares as particles in the explosion. Send them flying away in different directions. The particles will exactly match the pixels in the bitmap that you re destroying. First, I ll show you how to take snapshots of things on the stage, and then I ll show you how to cut them up and turn them into particles.

The design-time provider node provides specific configuration settings for a particular provider. Follow these steps to create the node: 1. Right-click the design-time configuration project in the Solution Explorer and select Application Block Software Factory Create Design-Time Provider Node. 2. The Create Design-Time Provider Node dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 14-16. In the Node Name field, enter AddMath.

In the chapter s source files, find the BitmapSnapshot folder and run the SWF. When the bullet hits the cave wall, the program takes an 80-by-80-pixel snapshot of the cave bitmap at the point where the bullet hit. It then displays the snapshots in a row at the top of the stage. Each snapshot represents the section of the cave bitmap that was destroyed by the explosion. Figure 6-3 illustrates what s happening.

Now you need to repeat the same process to add the design-time provider node for SubtractProvider. Name it SubtractMath. And that completes the creation of the new application block.
